Prerequisites
No prior knowledge of computer graphics is required. Basic linear
algebra and calculus will be assumed. We do assume solid programming skills
environments in C or C++. C++ is strongly preferred.
All programming assignments should be coded in C or C++.
Preferred operating system is
Windows 95/98/NT 4.0; please talk to the instructor if you wish
to use another operating system. The preferred C/C++ compilers are
gcc (egcs) and
Microsoft Visual C++.
Grading
There will be 1 written and 6 programming assignments. The will be
no midterm, but there will be a final. The assignments will count for approximately
80% and the final for 20% of the grade.
Late policy
The penalties for turning in assignments after the deadline are as follows:
-
20% for assignments handed in up to 24 hours late,
-
40% up to 48 hours,
-
80% up to 72 hours,
-
100% if more then 72 hours late.
If you need an extension you have to contact the instructor
in advance (4 days). Extensions will not be granted on the last day,
unless there are unexpected circumstances beyond your control.
Grading of programming assignments
Up to 30% of the grade may depend on the quality
of your code. We expect you to follow the guidlines of the style
guide (html , postscript).
We expect your program not to crush without
proper diagnostics. You are allowed to have assertion
failures, you are not allowed to simply crash. If your code crashes, you
will lose 50% of the points on that assignment. Examples of
disallowed behavior: "The memory could not be read/written", under Windows,
"Segmentation fault", "Bus error" under UNIX.
