Test images for Assignment 1

All images are in ppm format. You can see the results of sharpening, smoothing (blurring) and edge detection using the program on a UNIX machine xv. Go to the "Algorithms" menu and choose the operation. Note however, that xv does edge detection on each color component separately, while you are asked to compute the luminance and then do edge detection, so your image is supposed to be black and white. If you want to see what should NOT happen when you do resizing with a good filter, try resizing the checkerboard image with xv to the sizes indicated below (xv uses the nearest neighbor algorithm

checkerboard.ppm
Scale this image with factors 0.61 in x and 1.0 in y, 1.0 in x and 0.61 in y, 0.61 in both directions. Scale the image 1.5 times and 2 times. Shift the image by 20.5 pixels to the left and 60 pixels down. (6 images).

mandrill.ppm This is a classic image processing test picuture. Smooth and sharpen this picture. Repeat smoothing three times. Run the edge detection algorithm. (4 images).

wave.ppm This is a painting by K. Hokusai called "In the Hollow of a Wave off the Coast at Kanagawa".
Run the edge detection algorithm on this image. (1 image).
